Abstract

This study discussed the teaching strategies used by student teachers during their online internship program in 2020 when COVID-19 pandemic started. The participants of the study were the student teachers of English Language Education (ELE) study program cohort 2017 from one of the state universities in Malang. The data was collected using survey and interview. The instruments used in this study were questionnaire and interviews. The researcher distributed them to the 68 respondents who had done their online internship. The interview was done to 8 (eight) respondents to strengthen the questionnaire data. The result showed that the majority of student teachers of ELE 2017 applied Task-based Language Teaching (TBLT) using PowerPoint as their medium to help them deliver their materials. Other than that WhatsApp Zoom and Google Meet were the most used communication platforms while Google Form was the most preferred platform to distribute online quizzes. The result also showed that the majority of the respondents claimed that their students succeeded to reach standard score as a result of the respondents rsquo teaching strategy. However this study is limited to only show the information about student teachers of ELE 2017 teaching experience. The result of this study can be used as a guidance for anyone who will teach online classes.
