Abstract

The current study investigates an English teacher rsquo s implementation of scaffolding strategy in teaching recount text at a public lower secondary school in Malang. It employed a case study design. This design was chosen because of its alignment with the researcher s goal to uncover how the scaffolding strategy was being implemented. The data were collected from classroom observations interviews and documents. The researcher used Miles Huberman and Saldana rsquo s (2014) framework to analyze the data. The data were discussed through the lens of scaffolding strategy (Dewi 2013 Walqui 2006). In general the findings of this study is classified as follows (1) the scaffolding stages that the case teacher implemented in teaching writing recount text and (2) the case teacher rsquo s opinion about the implementation of scaffolding strategy in teaching recount text context. The current study reveals that the teacher implemented all stages except contextualizing. In addition this study reveals the teacher rsquo s perspectives including overview of strategy teacher rsquo s challenges teacher rsquo s solutions benefits of strategy and teacher rsquo s suggestion for implementing scaffolding strategy. The current study suggests that the implementation of scaffolding strategy generally can contribute to the teachers rsquo quality in teaching process.
