Abstract

This study aims to explore English teachers rsquo strategies in implementing a Blended Learning approach at vocational high schools in Mataram city and West Lombok Regency. The study employed a survey design. In collecting the data the researchers used a questionnaire and interview. The questionnaire was distributed to 100 teachers but only 79 responses were returned. The data obtained from the questionnaire were analysed using a simple percentage analysis. An interview was administered to 8 key informants. The interview data were analysed qualitatively to support the survey findings. Results of the study show that teachers implemented blended learning with various strategies. Apparently there was a sharp discrepancy in the teaching strategies used by teachers in the two sites. It appeared due to the locality factors such as (1) teachers rsquo lack of IT knowledge and skills (2) internet access and (3) the students rsquo lack of motivation. The implementation of blended learning in the two research sites varied because teachers responded differently. Some schools accepted blended learning as an alternative to deal with the reduced school learning time whereas some did not. These responses imply that teachers needed professional training to make them confidently receive blended learning as part of the development of their professional competence.
