Abstract

In Indonesia English language learning has been an important matter lately. However learning the English language have to be in line with learning the culture of the language. This study aimed at investigating the cultural content in the English textbook for twelfth graders entitled lsquo Bahasa Inggris rsquo 2018 revised edition published by the Indonesian Ministry of Education and Culture. This study adopted a descriptive approach in the form of content analysis. The data was collected employing an evaluation checklist adapted from the cultural components by Razi (2012) cultural categories by Cortazzi amp Jin (1999) and criteria for evaluating textbooks by BSNP (2014). The result showed that there were several imbalances in the cultural content presented in the textbook. In terms of cultural components the most dominant component was major values. In terms of cultural categories the most dominant culture presented was Indonesian culture. Based on the findings this textbook was considered a fair textbook in that it requires several improvements in terms of cultural content.
