This study examines racism and allegory depicted in a movie titled The Shape of Water by Guillermo del Toro (2017). This movie contains allegory that is delivered by the Amphibian Man and the treatments that Amphibian Man receives from other characters in The Shape of Water. Previous research shows that the Amphibian Man represents otherness that gets abused and mistreated by the government. This study is conducted from a different angle by identifying the specific mistreatments towards the Amphibian Man and investigating the allegorical devices employed in the movie. The study shows allegories depicted and its determiner which helps to categorize the racist acts that the Amphibian Man undergoes as institutionalized racism. It is found that what did the Amphibian Man undergo is similiar to the mistreatment of African-American people that was enslaved and subjected to medical experiments.
