Abstract

TYPES OF ILLOCUTIONARY ACT IN TAYLOR SWIFT'S SONG FROM THE FOLKLORE ALBUM CARDIGAN Yusnita Febrianti S.Pd. M.A. Ph.D Drs. Kukuh Prayitno S. M.A Abstract This study aims to analyze the types of illocutionary acts in Taylor Swift s song entitled Cardigan. This study the theory of classification of illocutionary acts proposed by Searle (1976). The data in this study was analyzed using a descriptive qualitative method. There are 53 data in total that were being examined in this study. For the representative/assertive type there are 38 items of data or 73% of the song lyric for the expressive type there are 13 items of data or 25% of the song lyric and for the commissive type there are only 1 item of data or 1 9% of the song lyric. Based on the analysis the researcher concluded that the representative/assertive type is the most dominant type of illocutionary act in this study accounting for 38% of all instances. Representative/assertive type is essential to use in a song because by describing narrating or stating the details of the storyline it enables the audience to visualize the emotions and experiences that the singer wants to convey.
