Abstract

This study examines the factors that are the reasons for the emergence of compulsive buying behaviour and the impact on the perpetrators of compulsive buying. This study uses a quantitative approach using experimental methods. To collect data the researcher distributed questionnaires to the respondents using Purposive Sampling through Google Forms. The researcher used the SEM-PLS approach technique. Data were obtained from 416 respondents and processed using software SmartPLS 3.2.9. This study found that materialism time affluence and socioeconomic status were the main predictors of compulsive buying behaviour. Someone with a high level of materialism low time influence and high socioeconomic status will have a higher potential to cause compulsive buying behaviour. It is also found that financial management can help suppress compulsive buying behaviour although it is not significant. Perpetrators of compulsive buying have a higher potential to have a dependence on loans to fulfil their shopping desires which results in an increase in debt owned and inability to pay and has an impact on causing financial problems for the perpetrators.
