Abstract

Vocabulary is an important part of almost every aspect of a learner s life such as listening speaking reading and writing. However due to the quick pace of change learners are finding it hard to learn and memorize English vocabulary. The goal of this study is to show that using visual mnemonic can help seventh graders learn and remember more words. A method called Classroom Action Research (CAR) was used and 33 students from class 7.6 from SMPN 21 Malang took part. The treatment was given in one cycle which has four stages in each cycle. Cycle 1 showed that 81.81% of students passed the criteria for success. The instruments that the researcher used were vocabulary tests observation sheets and an online questionnaire. The findings of this study revealed that this technique was helpful in increasing learners rsquo vocabulary knowledge and learners positively responded to the mnemonic technique by employing visual media to improve vocabulary mastery. So not only is it a useful option but students and teachers can also create a fun atmosphere in class.
