Abstract

Using case study design with qualitative approach this study is aimed at finding out the challenges and strategies of online grammar teaching during COVID-19 pandemic. The subjects were three EFL teachers at MAN 1 Blitar. The data were collected by interviewing the participating teachers and analyzing grammar online lesson plans. The finding showed that teachers insufficient digital skills and online grammar teaching training teachers perception and expectation students low grammar proficiency and background knowledge students negative attitude inadequate online learning facilities and the difficulties of online grammar learning made online grammar teaching challenging. It also discovered that teacher collaboration text-based teaching explicit features teaching reviewing worksheet integrating syllabus projects and giving feedback were the strategies implemented by the teachers. It can be concluded that students are the dominant challenges of online grammar teaching therefore teachers requires appropriate strategies to improve online grammar learning.
