Abstract

Since the Covid-19 has spread all around the world students rsquo lives have greatly disrupted. Classroom activity is coerced to be held online including the final exam. This teaching mode has some effects toward students rsquo behavior especially the tendency to do something improperly like cheating. This study aims to investigate the affecting factors towards academic fraud tendencies in the online final exam of linguistics by using triangle fraud theory by Donald Cressey namely pressure opportunity and rationalization as the independent variables. This study used a quantitative survey research design. The instrument used to collect the data was an online questionnaire. The items are composed from close-ended questions using Likert scale 1-4. Statistically the data was analyzed by using multiple linear regression analysis to determine the correlation of each independent variable toward the dependent variable. The subjects of this research were the ELE students of the 2018-2019 cohort. The result shows that all of the independent variables simultaneously influence the cheating tendency behavior. Partially opportunity (X2) gains the highest regression coefficient indicating that it is the most influencing factor in forming students rsquo cheating tendency in online exams.
