Characters are an important element in a story and characters will never change until they want that change. The change can be a development in a positive or negative direction and this can happen to everyone who wants a change in themselves. The aim of this study is to describe the results related to the development of the character that occurs in the main female character in Divergent the movie and who drives the change. Divergent is one of the popular films in 2014 based on the best-selling novel. The film manages to show how strong the determination of a character who wants to show a change and development is for the better. The main female character mentioned is Beatrice Prior. This analysis will use The Stages of Hero rsquo s Journey by Vogler (1998) and Behavior Change by Lewin (1970) to show what changes she experienced and the hero s journey theory to see the process of these changes. This study found that Beatrice Prior the main character in Divergent managed to experience character development in a positive direction from being lacking of confidence to becoming more confident and from being weak to being stronger. It was also found that the driving factors in the changes experienced by Beatrice Prior are Dauntless Faction and Four.
