Abstract

Having a good ability of English is a required skill in today s market. English is an international language that must be mastered. There are some students rsquo problems to learn English. It is difficult to learn lacking of convidence lacking of exposure limit of vocabulary and less effective of learning method. To support students cognitive function in learning English teachers must have creative plans and ways to give students lessons. Video blogging can be used to improve students rsquo speaking ability. It can boost students encouragement to speak by providing a fun easy and accessible way to their learning process. This research was conducted to determine whether the use of video blogs was effective in improving students speaking skills. The formulations of research problem in this study is Is the use of video blog effective to increase students ability in speaking skills . rdquo This research used a pre-experimental design with one group pretest and post-test. This study was conducted at STMIK PPKIA Pradnya Paramita (STIMATA). This study envolved students from the undergraduate program in Computer Science Faculty. The participants were in the first semester of academic year 2021/2022 consisting of one class with 30 students with different abilities. The researcher used three steps of in doing the research namely pretest treatment and posttest. The data were then analyzed using a paired sample T-test by IBM SPSS Statistics 16. Based on the data analysis it can be concluded that the use of video blogging can effectively improve speaking skills in STIMATA first semester students. This can be seen based on the results of the paired sample t-test where the mean value of the posttest is greater than the value of the pretest (67.50 gt 33.83). Then the correlation results also show that the significance value is 0.007 lt 0.05 meaning that there is a correlation or relationship between pretest and posttest. The last is the paired sample t-test output which shows a significant value of 0.000 lt 0.05 meaning that the treatment given can improve speaking skills.
