Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic is a big challenge for the world of education to be able to create online-based learning that is adaptive effective and efficient. The use of an effective learning model will be able to help students absorb knowledge easily especially in the field of geography therefore the use of the Geographical Inquiry learning model is a breakthrough in learning during a pandemic. The Geographical Inquiry learning model is part of the inquiry learning model that focuses on the intellectual abilities of students so that they can grow and improve intellectual abilities critical thinking skills and higher-order thinking skills that this learning model also makes it easier for students to find solutions to a problem. using a spatial approach with three important things namely Where is it Why is it there Why care this learning also uses the ArcGIS application device which is one of the effective learning media implemented in online learning. This study uses a quasi-experimental research method (Quasi Experiment) using a quantitative approach. The research process is carried out by manipulating certain treatments stimuli or conditions and then observing the changes or effects caused by these manipulations. Based on the results of research conducted on Social Science ninth graders students of SMA Negeri 1 Singosari it shows that there is a significant influence in the application of the Geographical Inquiry learning model assisted by ArcGIS software and the use of conventional learning models on students critical thinking skills. In addition it has been proven that the application of the Geographical Inquiry learning model is more effective than conventional learning models in developing and improving students critical thinking skills in geography lessons. It can be concluded from the results of the critical thinking ability test conducted by the experimental class and control class with the average value of the experimental class using the Geographical Inquiry model higher than the control class using the conventional learning model.
