SUMMARY Meinawati Sitta. 2021. Evaluation on English for Management Textbook Etic and Emic Perspectives. Thesis English Language Teaching. Graduate Program Universitas Negeri Malang. Advisors (1) Dr. Furaidah M.A. and (2) Dr. Johannes Ananto Prayogo M.Pd. M.Ed. Key words ESP Textbook Evaluation Perspectives This current study discussed the evaluation toward English for Management Textbook. It comprised the perspectives from both the etic and emic point of view. The etic was the outsider in this case is the ESP expert while the emic was the native member of the institution in this case is the users both the students and instructors. The evaluation focused on the adapted checklists from previous conducted studies from the experts namely Tous and Haghighi (2014) and Cunningsworth (1995). There were eight criteria in total. They are aims and approaches design and organization large content and exercise skills and strategies topics practical consideration methodology and teachers book. This study implemented content analysis. The subject employed in this research were 196 students of Management studies and 9 ESP instructors who joined the questionnaire filling session. While only 3 students and 5 instructors who were willing to join the interview session. There was also an ESP expert joined as of the etic perspective. For the validity assurance the researcher utilized triangulation based on those three investigators namely the students the instructors and the ELT expert for this study. The finding showed that both the students and the instructors shared diverse perceptions on the textbook they used in their classroom. The instructors claimed that the textbook has succeed meeting some criteria such as practical consideration aims and approaches content and exercise in language several criteria for skills and strategies and methodology. On the other side of that argument the students stated that almost all the requirements were succeed. It can be seen from their questionnaire and interview answers. They mainly chose between good and excellent. While for the etic perspectives the ESP expert argued that the qualification of a successful book has been met by some of the criteria. That dealing with the presentation is the only constructive feedback she gave to this book be it the appearance and the content. It is needed to put into consideration dealing with the appearance that supposed to be appealing and also the content should be linked to each given skills properly. Those divergent viewpoints of both etic and emic perspectives lead to the conclusion that the textbook has its own strengths and shortcomings to be evaluated. It is therefore can give some suggestion to those particular parties dealing with this textbook. First the book writers need to focus on the continuity of the book presentation as well as its materials in each skills that should be interconnected to each other. Also the appearance of the text book should be appealing to attract the users visual needs. For the instructors as they get privilege to utilize this textbook as they need it is important to acknowledge all the plus and minus ones to employ from this book. And the last for the potential researcher who are interested in doing the same study as this research to get deep and thorough information it is crucial to prepare sufficient amount of time allocation.
