Abstract

Graphic organizers are tools to structure information visually by arranging important aspects of a concept or topic into a pattern using labels. Graphic organizers are very helpful during the pre-writing as it helps to brainstorming ideas. Moreover the use of graphic organizers in the pre-writing phase makes it easier for the students to express their thoughts and opinions into a good writing. Graphic organizers can also help the students to write more proficiently as it helps to improve planning organization word choice and composition coherence. By using graphic organizers students rsquo writings become more logical well-organized cohesive and coherent. This research is conducted to investigate the effectiveness of using graphic organizers to improve students rsquo writing skills on analytical exposition text. It is conducted using experimental design specifically quasi experimental design. The sample of this research consists of two classes experimental and control with 30 students in each class. The data for this research were collected using writing tests which is pre-test and post-test as the tools to measure students rsquo writing skills. Moreover the raters use writing rubric to score students rsquo writing tests. The research finding shows that the use of graphic organizers in the pre writing stage significantly affects students rsquo writing skills on analytical exposition text. It is proven by the result of the T-Test that shows the sig. score is .000 lt .05 which means that the H0 is rejected and the H1 is accepted. Hence it can be concluded that there is a significant difference between the students who are taught analytical exposition text writing using graphic organizers and those who are taught writing using conventional method. Based on the result it can be concluded that using graphic organizers in writing process gives positive effects on the students rsquo writing ability.
