Abstract

Key Words Vocabulary Use Vocabulary Level Vocabulary use has a very important role in learning English. As foreign language or second language learners people need to learn English especially English vocabulary use because without having an adequate vocabulary someone cannot communicate in English well. The objectives of the study in detail are to know type of words vocabulary use and repeated words used by the students that belong to the 1000-word level. The subjects of the study were all students of seventh grade in SMP Internasional Laboratorium UM in 2011/2012 academic year. This study used a descriptive qualitative design. The instrument of the study was the 1000-word level. The data were obtained from the students writing. Writing test was administered twice on different days. The first test was concerned with the recount text and the second test focused on the descriptive text. The students wrote two paragraphs in English namely the recount text and descriptive text. The number of words in every paragraph was different. The recount text consisted of 200 words and the descriptive text consisted of 100 up to 200 words. From the results of the findings the researcher categorized five types of words in students writing namely verbs adjectives nouns adverbs and function words. The students used many words in every part of speech. It means that they could use five types of words in their daily lives. They employed various words in their writings so that they could be categorized or included into the 1000-word level. They also repeated some words. There were few repetitions of words which frequently appeared in their writings either the recount text or descriptive text. The more the students repeated the words the more they could memorize the words. In addition the level of students vocabulary use is good enough. They excessively used words that belong to the 1000-word level. The English teacher is suggested to expand students vocabulary and giving vocabulary test regularly to review students advancement in learning an English vocabulary.Key Words Vocabulary Use Vocabulary Level Vocabulary use has a very important role in learning English.
