Abstract

Keywords Workbook Contextuality of Vocabulary ICP Students workbook is a book which is designed specifically where the students could study various tasks independently. CTL is the latest approach that is newly implemented where the materials and activities are based on the student s prior knowledge. It engages the students in significant activities that help them connect academic studies to their context in real-life situation. For the smoothness of CTL program the role of workbook is very important because in teaching and learning activities certainly teachers require a workbook. In this case the workbook used should be contextual which later on will influence the contextuality of vocabulary. Therefore in this study the researcher will describe the contextuality of vocabulary items used in the students workbook. This study was descriptive-evaluative content analysis on the students workbook. The case analyzed was about the contextuality of vocabulary items used in the students workbook to the first grade of International Class Program (ICP) of Laboratory Primary School State University of Malang. The instruments used for this study were human instrument namely the researcher himself and contextuality of vocabulary checklist categories. The findings of this study show that the vocabulary items used in the students workbook English Workbook Grade 1 Semester 2 in the first grade of international class program (ICP) of Laboratory Primary School State University of Malang are suitable for the students of Malang. It appears as the result of the analysis from the contextuality of vocabulary checklist categories. From fifteen categories that used by the researcher to find out the contextuality of vocabulary items used in the students workbook the only one category that was not contextual namely names of person while two other categories names of furniture and sports were empty because there was not vocabulary included in these categories in the students workbook. Based on the results of this study the researcher suggested that the writer only changes the names of person used in the workbook with the names of person in Malang because it suitable for their context.
