Abstract

ABSTRACT Pujilestari Rusma Dian. 2009. The Implementation of the 2006 KTSP In the English Class of Grade XII at SMAN 8 Malang. Thesis English Language Education Faculty of Letters State University of Malang. Advisor Harits Masduqi S.Pd M.Pd M.Ed. Key words Implementation KTSP teacher-made syllabus teacher-made lesson plan teacher-made material SMAN 8 Malang. This study is aimed to know the implementation of English class based on 2006 KTSP (School-Based Curriculum) in grade XII at SMAN 8 Malang. To be more specific this study is focused on the effective implementation of KTSP syllabus KTSP lesson plan supporting materials and teaching method in the English class of grade XII at SMAN 8 Malang. The research design of this study was descriptive qualitative since this study was designed to obtain information concerning the current condition of the subject taken and described as the real situation occured in this study. This study was conducted at SMAN 8 Malang. One English teacher was taken as source based on some considerations she was the chief of Association of English Teachers (MGMP) she had plenty experiences in joining workshops and good achievement during her career as an English teacher. She taught two classes of grade XII. So there were two classes that was being observed. The instruments used in this study were observation sheet interview guide questionnaire checklist of teacher-made syllabus and teacher-made lesson plan. Then the result of observation interview questionnaire and checklists were analyzed and reported descriptively. There were some findings obtained from this study. First syllabus used in SMAN 8 Malang was based on the syllabus issued by the Board of National Standard of Education with some modifications made by the teacher. Second there were two kinds of lesson plans that the teacher used teacher-made lesson plan and lesson plan framework made by the Association of English Teachers. Both were qualified to be considered as KTSP lesson plan. Third since 2009 the Indonesian government suggested schools to use electronic book (e-Book). So every class in SMAN 8 Malang was equipped with LCD and projector. Teachers were also provided with laptop to facilitate them to access the e-Book. Fourth the teaching methods used in the class were varied such as role play discussion presentation and group work. Based on the conclusions some suggestions were given to the English teachers the school headmaster the curriculum developer and future researchers.The English teacher was expected to improve additional materials such as flash cards puppets and pictorial devices. For the school headmaster the classroom managemant was needed to be noticed because it also brought effects on the students motivation during the teaching-learning process. The curriculum developers were expected to identify and analyze the strengths and weaknesses of the implementation of KTSP to make some betterments for future curriculum. Finally future researchers were expected to investigate detail aspects about the implementation of the 2006 KTSP such as examine the effectiveness of using e- Book in English classes based on 2006 KTSP.
