In response to COVID-19 outbreak in Indonesia since the beginning of 2020 the present research aimed to find out young EFL learner rsquo s attitude and motivation toward online English learning. It was also intended to review the applicable curriculum used in teaching English for elementary school students. By applying case study design from qualitative approach this research involved eight first graders to be participating in interview. They were required to create metaphor about online English learning. The data were then analyzed by using Elicited Metaphor Analysis. It included transcribing coding classifying presenting and providing descriptive explanation to the findings. In addition lesson plan analysis was carried out and teacher rsquo s and parents rsquo perspectives were also collected. It aimed to involve triangulation method to avoid bias. The findings revealed that young EFL learners tend to have low motivation on online English learning. Most of them prefer to attend to school rather than studying alone at home. The teacher also confirmed that learning assessment through online platforms was rather uneasy to do since basic competence 4 would be more effective to be assessed in offline setting. In the parents rsquo perspective students tend to become dependent on their parents which resulted in the loss of the element of student-centered learning as what mandated by Curriculum 2013. In other words the current curriculum for online English learning and the existing obstacles have not been able to provide a worthwhile educational experience in accordance with the objectives of teaching English for elementary school. To sum up reviewing the current curriculum and developing more effective media for online learning are highly recommended to increase student attitude and motivation toward online English learning.
