Abstract

The limited duration of language learning in the classroom resulted in unachievable students to English proficiency. Therefore this research aimed to explore students rsquo experiences and expectations of ICT (Information and Communication Technology) use. The subject of this research was students from 3 cohorts (2017 2018 2019) of English Language Education (ELE) Universitas Negeri Malang. The data gathered from the questionnaire distributed using Google Form were then analyzed using frequency distribution and accumulated in percentages denoting every student s responses for every item. The percentages were then elaborated into sentences with descriptive analysis. From the findings students showed positive experience toward using ICT to improve English skills. For listening skills the majority chose Youtube as a helpful platform. Then students found social media was the most useful platform in improving reading skill. For writing skills Grammarly was a very appealing platform for students. Lastly for enhancing speaking skills most students selected Facetime apps. Additionally since the communication technology application for general purposes is more significant in terms of frequency than learning purposes learners expect that ICT use will be more frequently utilized in the classroom to increase their English language proficiency.
