Abstract

To gain information on learners rsquo different perceptions on ELT materials evaluation criteria based on their major learning styles the 12th graders major learning styles were identified through a self-reporting questionnaire which asked about their perceptions on the criteria of ELT materials evaluation. The quantitative data were obtained from 112 responses to the learning style and materials evaluation questionnaires and multistage cluster sampling was used because the population was very large. A descriptive study was chosen to show the differences in learners rsquo perceptions. The finding shows that the students major learning styles affected their perceptions and expectations to material evaluation criteria. This suggests that the students rsquo perceptions on materials evaluation criteria relative to their major learning styles can provide useful feedback. The information about students rsquo perceptions on material evaluation relative to their learning styles hopefully can be used by the coursebook publishers to consider the learning material such as tasks exercises and projects that will be suitable for them. Also coursebook publishers and developers are suggested to write and develop teaching methods by taking the consideration of students rsquo learning styles preferences seriously.
