Abstract

Coronavirus outbreaks spread in the whole world including Indonesia. It affects a lot of changes especially in education field. Emergency remote learning is held to handle educational problems resulted from the spread of coronavirus. More particularly the conventional offline class has been replaced by online class. This study is done to see which one is more effective the conventional class or the online class. This study used a survey design. The sample was 68 students (25%) from the total population of 270 students of the 4th and 6th semesters at the English Language Teaching Program at Universitas Negeri Malang. These students took Argumentative Writing course in offline class and online class. The survey shows that students preferred online class to offline class in terms of convenience understanding and accessibility aspects. Regardless of the students rsquo preferences it is necessary to evaluate these two types of learning modes especially in terms of their advantages and disadvantages so that the future of both online and offline classes will reach the highest point of effectiveness.
