The research aims to examine the words representing the act of swearing and factors that frequently trigger the swear word occurrences in Spongebob Squarepants cartoon. The data sources were taken from episodes of the cartoon rsquo s dialogue in season one. The research method used is the descriptive qualitative method since this study s results were concerned with non-numerical data. After analyzing the data the results show that dialogues in Spongebob Squarepants cartoon consist of swear words equivalent to current types of swear words (i.e. Profane and Supernatural Excretion and Disgusting Objects Sexual References and Ethnicity Racial and Bloodline). Several new swear words are found in the cartoon but those words are still equivalent to those types of swearing. Furthermore swear words in Spongebob Squarepants cartoon also occur because of several factors such as Emotional Change Reaction toward Pain Emphasize Dominance Showing Intimacy and Solidarity and Insulting Someone. Swear words in the cartoon have similar types and reasons to common swear words.
