Abstract

This study aims at examining teachers rsquo and students rsquo perceptions and preferences on corrective feedback in English as a Foreign Language (EFL) writing. Fifty teachers and seventy students from 20 different Senior High Schools in Jember participated in the present study. The researcher employed a Likert scale questionnaire and an unstructured interview guide in collecting the data. The study revealed that there were no different perceptions from both teachers and students. However this study highlighted the distinct preferences between teachers and students. It led to a piece of information that some students still needed and expected some activities to train and practice their understanding concerning their grammatical inconsistencies or other writing problems with the help of teachers guidance and assistance. In highlight the result of this study would be beneficial for teachers as their teaching reflections by interpreting students insights and thoughts concerning the preferred feedback strategy used by the teachers.
