Abstract

A plethora of studies have reported positive results on the use of constructive criticism across different academic contexts and levels. However it has remained little understood whether EFL students in Indonesian contexts respond the use of constructive criticism in the classroom positively. The present study aims to examine undergraduate students rsquo perception on the use of constructive criticism and its effect on their language learning motivation. The result revealed that the undergraduate students had positive perception on the use of constructive criticism in the classroom. The students were helped in some ways in learning English by means of receiving oral constructive criticism from their faculty members. More prominently the result showed that the use of oral constructive criticism played a big role in boosting their motivation in learning English. They did not feel constructive criticism as a threat that inhibited them from being their best version of themselves in learning English.
