Tjang Daniel Chandra M.Si Ph.D. Kata kunci Peningkatan Kemampuan Representasi Matematis RME Siswa kelas VI MI Mambaul Ulum masih mengalami kesulitan dalam menyelesaikan masalah matematika yang kontekstual. Hal diakibatkan siswa tidak biasa menyelesaikan soal dengan menggunakan representasi matematis yang beragam. Representasi bertujuan mempermudah siswa dalam menyelesaiakan masalah matematika yang sifatnya abstrak menjadi lebih nyata bagi siswa. Salah satu alternatif pembelajaran yang memanfaatkan lingkungan nyata siswa adalah Realistic Mathematics Education (RME). Karena itu dalam penelitian ini akan dikaji pembelajaran dengan pendekatan Realistic Mathematics Education (RME). Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikanlangkah-langkah pembelajaran dengan pendekatan Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) yang dapat meningkatkan kemampuan representasi matematis siswa kelas VI MI Mambaul Ulum. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian tindakan kelas yang dilakukan di MI Mambaul Ulum dan subyek penelitiannya adalah siswa kelas VI tahun ajaran 2009/2010. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan pada bulan Juli 2009 dalam 2 tahap yaitu (1) tahap pra tindakan dan (2) tahap tindakan. Tahap tindakan terdiri dari tindakan I dan tindakan II. Hasil penelitian ini dapat disimpulkan bahwa Langkah-langkah pembelajaran dengan Pendekatan Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) yang dapat meningkatkan kemampuan representasi matematis siswa kelas VI MI Mambaul Ulum Malang meliputi (1) memahami masalah kontekstual peneliti meminta siswa secara individu untuk memahami soal kontekstual yang ada pada LKS dan meminta siswa untuk mengungkapkan maksud soal kontekstual dengan menggunakan representasi gambar simbol atau verbal (2) menyelesaikan masalah kontekstual peneliti meminta siswa untuk mengerjakan LKS secara berkelompok dengan menggunakan alat peraga. Siswa saling membantu dan bekerja sama untuk meningkatkan kemampuan representasi konkret gambar simbol (3) membandingkan dan mendiskusikan jawaban peneliti meminta salah satu kelompok mempresentasikan hasil diskusi kelompok dan kelompok lain membandingkan hasil kerjanya dengan kelompok presentator. Tahap ini kemampuan representasi verbal siswa dilatih serta (4) menyimpulkan peneliti bersama siswa menyimpulkan hasil dari diskusi kelas. Kemampuan representasi simbol dan verbal siswa dikembangkan. Hal ini ditunjukkan dengan peningkatan rata-rata skor kemampuan representasi matematis (tes awal 22 27% tes tindakan I 63 63% tes tindakan II 77 27%). Hal tersebut diperkuat dengan hasil observasi aktivitas siswa dan guru selama pembelajaran masuk dalam kategori Baik . ABSTRACT Rofiqoh Khanifah Nur. 2009. Tjang Daniel Chandra M.Si Ph.D. Key Word Improving Mathematical Representation Skill RME The sixth Graders of MI Mambaul Ulum still had difficulties in solving contextual mathematics problems. It was caused by the students who were unusual to use varied mathematical representations in solving their mathematics problems. Representation was aimed to make the students easier in accomplishing their mathematics problems which have abstract characteristic to be more concrete for them. One of the instructional models which uses students real environment is Realistic Mathematics Education (RME). Therefore in this study would be conducted a mathematics Instruction using Realistic Mathematics Education approach. This study was aimed to describe instructional steps using Realistic Mathematics Education approach which can improve mathematical representation skill for the sixth Graders of MI Mambaul Ulum. This study was designed as a Classroom Action Research which was conducted at MI Mambaul Ulum with the subjects of the study was the sixth Graders of 2009/2010 academic year. This study was implemented on July 2009 in two stages (1) preliminary stage and (2) action stage. The action stage involved of first action and second action. On the basis of the findings it could be concluded that instructional steps using Realistic Mathematics Education approach which can improve mathematical representation skill for the sixth Graders of MI Mambaul Ulum including (1) comprehending contextual problems the researcher asked students to comprehend contextual problems individually which were provided on Students Work Sheet and asked them to express the meaning of contextual problems using picture representation symbolic representation or verbal representation (2) solving contextual problems the researcher asked students to do Students Work Sheet in group using manipulative materials. The students helped each other and worked together to improve their skills in term of concrete representation picture representation and symbolic representation (3) comparing and discussing their answers the researcher asked one group to present the result of group discussion meanwhile other groups comparing their results with presenter group in this phase the students verbal representation skill was drilled and (4) concluding the researcher with the students concluded the result of class discussion. Students skill of symbolic and verbal representations was developed. It was indicated by improving the students average score of mathematical representation skill (preliminary study test was 22.27% first action test was 63.63% and second action test was 77.27%). In addition observation result of the students and teacher activities during the instructional process was categorized Good .
