Teaching strategy can increase students enthusiasm for learning. With an increased enthusiasm for learning learning is expected to be more effective. This is necessary in teaching reading especially reading comprehension which tends to make students feel bored more easily. This study aims to provide an overview of the strategies used by English teachers at the junior high school level in Kayong Utara Kalimantan Barat in teaching reading. This study was conducted using a qualitative approach descriptive research design. Instrument used to collect data was a questionnaire. There are 40 English teachers at the junior high school level in Kayong Utara who are expected to fill out the questionnaire given by the researcher. From the results of this study the most dominant answers chosen by respondents were SQ3R (Survey Question Read Recite Review) QAR (Question Answer Relationship) and Scaffolding. In addition it is also known that student achievement goals are the main consideration for teachers in choosing teaching strategies. Then the main obstacle faced by teachers in implementing the strategy is the limited technology and learning resources. This study is expected to be a reference for teachers in choosing teaching strategies.
