Abstract

ABSTRACT Prabawati Dini Privea. 2008. Ideologies in Queen Elizabeth I s Poems. Thesis Department of English Literature Faculty of Letters State University of Malang. Advisor Drs. Kukuh Prayitno Subagyo M.A. Keywords Poems ideology political power subject Marxist Literary Criticism supremacy. Valuing and analyzing poem (poetry) is such a pleasure involving challenge to understand and comprehend its construction and expectation effect over the society s consciousness. This study discusses poems written by Queen Elizabeth I. The problem statement taken in this study is about possible ideologies presented in QE I s poems. Based on that general picture QE I has intentionally applied certain ideology (ies) within her poems which underline her belief over the right way of observing and maintaining political power over the subject (British People). Regarding this ideology matter and the concept of subject and object Marxist Literary Criticism is considered as the proper tool to evaluate the ideology presented in QE I s poems. Finally through this study the QE I s ideologies could be presented to the reader with the expectation that this study could open present readers mind and imagination that during QE I realm ideologies and other practical actions had been exercised in order to maintain her realm by spreading the false consciousness form in society. In short false consciousness was there to help QE I to sooth her subjects to keep and perform long-lasting supremacy.
