Abstract

The teaching of Arabic of MI definitely supports the teaching of PAI subject matter. Text book is an important element that is not separable from the teaching of Arabic. The format of text book is usually changed based on the change of the curriculum. The application of 2004 Curriculum known as KBK and then 2006 Curriculum known as KTSP must be followed by the change of the text book format used. It is because the characteristic of contextual-based teaching in KTSP is very different with the concept developed in the previous curriculum. To support this the government through BSNP investigates the existed text books nevertheless it is not done to all of the books. Arabic text book is one of the books which are not investigated yet as a result the people especially the teachers themselves are insisted to be selective in selecting the books which are relevant to the 2006 Curriculum. From this phenomenon this study is discussing about the relevancy of the text book with the curriculum. The objective of this study is to describe the relevancy of material learning activities exercise and evaluation of the Arabic text book with the applied curriculum. The text book which is examined is the Arabic text book for MI grade IV V and VI published by Erlangga and the curriculum which is applied is the 2006 Curriculum or Kurikulum Tingkat Satuan Pendidikan (KTSP). The research method used in this study is qualitative descriptive. The data is taken from Arabic text book grade IV V and VI written by A. Syaekhuddin Halid al-Kaf and Jalal Suyuti. The book is published by Erlangga on May 2008. The instrument of this study is a non-test instrument the researcher himself as the main instrument and analysis form guide in from of a relevancy table of the text book with the 2006 Curriculum. The data analysis is done by comparing the 2006 Curriculum components with the material of the Arabic text book. From the analysis it is found the relevancy of the text book with the 2006 curriculum of Arabic based on the criteria of relevant relevant enough and less relevant. The results of the study indicate that the relevancy of the text book grade IV V and VI published by Erlangga with the 2006 Curriculum are that the material of the text book grade IV is relevant to the curriculum the material of the text book grade V is relevant to the curriculum and the material of the text book grade VI is relevant to the curriculum. Secondly the learning activities of the text book grade IV is less relevant to the curriculum the learning activities of the text book grade V is less relevant to the curriculum and the learning activities of the text book grade VI is also relevant to the curriculum. Thirdly the exercise and evaluation of the text book grade IV is less relevant to the curriculum the exercise and evaluation of the text book grade V is less relevant to the curriculum and the exercise and evaluation of the text book grade VI is also less relevant to the curriculum. Some material on the books is not contextual some do not have instruction showing certain activities of the learning or as the material for exercise and evaluation. The final conclusion of the researcher is that the Arabic text book grade IV V and VI is less relevant to the 2006 Curriculum. According to the research finding there are some suggestions given by the researcher. The Arabic teacher should be selective in selecting the text book as the supporter of his or her teaching instruction. A writer of text book have to notice the characteristics and the content of the curriculum which is applied as the guide in composing an Arabic text book so that the text book which is written can be categorized relevant. The next researcher can examine the text book with other field of discussion.
