Abstract

Key words Textbook Aims and Approaches Organization Language Content and Skills Topic Methodology The study analyzes the textbook entitled Modul Bahasa Inggris X published and used by Public Senior High School 2 Malang to see whether the content of textbook meets the criteria of a good EFL textbook in terms of the aims and approaches organization language content language skills topics and methodology. This study focuses on content analysis design that attempts to analyze the English textbook used by the tenth graders of Public Senior High School 2 Malang. The techniques to collect the data are scoring rubric interview guide and questionnaires. Based on the findings firstly in terms of aims and approaches the textbook is categorized as good. Secondly in terms of organization the textbook is categorized as fair. Thirdly in terms of language content the textbook is categorized as fair. Fourthly in terms of language skills the textbook is categorized as good. Next in terms of topic the textbook is categorized as fair. Sixthly in terms of methodology the textbook is categorized as good. Based on the findings the researcher suggests the textbook writer to improve the quality of the textbook by considering several aspects in the textbook. For the publishers it is suggested they can maintain the quality of the textbook in terms of the content and layout of the textbook. The English teachers of the tenth graders can use the textbook by considering finding and providing another alternative material as complementary media to teach their students. For the other researchers who may conduct studies on the similar subject this research can be used as one of references for the next researcher who wants to deal with the content analysis of a textbook.
