Abstract

Key words male ideal male-esteem masculinism Society as the place for family to live is the best place to understand many kinds of thinking about family itself. The most misunderstood critical- theory concepts of patriarchy in any family give us many kinds of thought that make the traditions within family will exchange. Some societies are more patriarchal than others but patriarchal social traditions are universal in human societies. The word patriarchy comes from the Latin word pater which means father (Sonia Pressman Fuentes 2010 Women s Issues/Feminism). It most often refers to the political power and authority of males in a society. Patriarchy can also refer to the power of fathers within families. Patriarchy rule by father or male authority gives many kinds of misunderstood concepts within family itself because there are many kinds of family that are strict with the patriarchy rules and makes women get no authority in their own home. A society is considered patriarchal when men establish or inherit a social order where they dominate positions of power and authority or when important achievements and historical events are attributed to the actions of men. In this thesis I will try to give some evidences about the patriarchy itself in the Daddy s Day Care the movie which will give us some understanding about patriarchy that comes out within family and affects all the aspects of life in that family. Besides I will also show some evidence from The Nanny Diaries the novel which gives other evidences that women are weaker than men. I am trying to compare both of those works and try to find out the differences between them.
