Key words suggestopedia improve comprehension This study is intended to use suggestopedia to help students of class VIII.E of SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Jember to improve their ability in comprehending narrative texts. The study was conducted because 90.6% of the students scored below the minimum mastery learning standard (Standar Ketuntasan Belajar Minimal/SKBM). The study was designed as a Collaborative Classroom Action Research (CAR). The subject of this study was thirty two students of class VIII.E of SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Jember. The study was conducted in two cycles each of which consisted of four steps namely planning implementation observation and reflection. In the planning stage the researcher preparing the lesson plan the research instrument and prepared criteria of success. In the implementation stage the researcher conducted what had been designed in the lesson plans. In the observation stage the researcher collected data concerning suggestopedia implementation. In the reflection stage the researcher decided whether or not suggestopedia met the criteria of success. There were four lesson plans two in each cycle. The instrument used to collect data were interview guide for the teacher questionnaire reading test observation checklist and field notes. The criterion of success was 60% out of the students scored above the SKBM with the gain equal to above 15. The result of this study showed that suggestopedia upgraded the students scores in reading narrative texts hence their reading 68.75 % students of class VIII.E scored above the minimum mastery learning (Standar Ketuntasan Belajar Minimal/SKBM) with the gain equal to above 15. It can be concluded then that the study fulfilled the criteria of success. The finding also showed that suggestopedia also activates the students as well as the teacher thus make the class run more effectively. Based on finding the researcher recommended the teacher to use suggestopedia as the media to improve the students comprehension of narrative text which cover word comprehension sentence comprehension paragraph comprehension and text comprehension.
