Abstract

This study was conducted to describe the teaching of English at TK Laboratorium of State University of Malang. It aims at (1) describing the teaching preparation stage (2) describing the teaching of English (3) describing teacher s problems (4) describing how teacher solve the problems in teaching English.This study employed a descriptive design because it described the implementation of the teaching of English at TK Laboratorium of State University of Malang including the teaching preparation stage the teaching of English teacher s problems and possible solution to solve the problems in the teaching and learning process. The instruments used to obtain the data were observation field notes documentation and interview. The study was conducted from March 07 2011 up to March 17 2011 and the subject was a teacher of A Bilingual Moon class of TK Laboratorium of State University of Malang. The findings show that the school preparation stage includes (1) PROTA (Yearly Program) (2) PROMES (Semester Program) (3) SKM (Weekly Lesson Plan) (4) SKH (Daily Lesson Plan). The four programs are based on the curriculum of the school and then the teachers design them more specifically in order to guide themselves in teaching and introducing the materials to their students bilingually (both in English and Indonesia). However the teacher in A Bilingual Moon did not make SKH as a guide in teaching and learning process. It was also found that there were some problems faced by the teachers in teaching English in the classroom (1) the use of grammar (2) the correct pronunciation of new words (3) the use of local language such as Javanese. Accordingly the possible ways of solving the problems were (1) the teacher asked her assistant or other teachers who graduated from English department about the right use of English (2) the teacher taught herself English by learning English book and listening to the English music.This study suggests both the teacher and the school to improve capability of teachers in English and the use of preparation stage to support the teaching of English at TK Laboratorium of State University of Malang therefore students can get the better results in learning English.
