Abstract

This classroom action research aimed to improve the qualiq'of teaching and learning English through the use of games and songs. Specifically, this classroom action researchh as objectivest o increases tudents'participationa, nd to improve classrooms ituation.T his researchc omposedoftwo cycles,e achc yclec onsistso f four phasesn, amelyp lanning,i mplementationo, bservationa nde valuationa nd reflection. The subiecto f the researcha re the researchehr erselfa s the English teacher of SDN Arjosari III Malang and the fourth grade students of SDN A{osari III Malang. The data were analyzedt hrough percentagea nd presentedin form of description. The instruments are observation and interview guide and were supported with teacher's note and journal. The result of the research shows that using games and songsi mprove students'participationa nd createse ncouraging,c heerful and enjovable situation for students. However, during the classroom action research, the researcherf ound severald ifficulties such as: the difficulqr in controlling the students when the games were played, the use of games and songs as technique to present the materials. the lack of facilities, traking notes during implementation phase and observationp hases imultaneously.
