The data were collected through the following instruments interview guide field notes observation sheets questionnaires and listening tests. The results of listening test of Cycle I showed that the mean scores were 79.21 but there were only 31 students (65%) could get above 75 therefore the criteria of success were not achieved yet and the researcher needed to conduct Cycle II. The researcher improved the technique by dictating and discussing the difficult words before they watched the animation clips in Cycle II. The results in Cycle II showed that the mean scores reached 87.39 and 87 % (40 students) got above 75. The research found that the animation clips could be used to improve the listening skills of the eighth graders of SMPN 21 Malang. The researcher concluded that the key points of success of the animation clips implementation were (1) selecting the appropriate and interesting animation clips (2) using relevant and interesting teaching techniques that is three-phase techniques which consists of pre-listening activities whilst-listening activities and post-listening activities (3) and playing the roles of teacher in the teaching and learning process. Based on the findings some suggestions are given to English teachers and further researchers. Since the animation clips can help the students listening ability and also increase their motivation in doing listening activities it is recommended that English teachers incorporate the use of animation clips in the classroom.
