Abstract

Keywords Grammatical Accuracy Promotion Media Tourism Grammatical Accuracy is the level of accuracy of any products of writings on the basis of grammatical well-formed sentences. This study is aimed at knowing the level of accuracy in the Promotion Media of Tourism in Batu East Java as well as classifying the grammatical inaccuracy based on the surface strategy taxonomy linguistic category taxonomy and miscellaneous mistakes. The research design of this study is descriptive qualitative research. To collect the data the researcher first chose the sentences containing some grammatical inaccuracy either grammatical errors or mistakes. After finishing collecting the data the researcher analyzed them using some steps they are (1) coding the grammatical inaccuracy based on the surface strategy taxonomy the lexical category taxonomy and other miscellaneous errors (2) classifying the data to find out the percentages of the grammatical accuracy inaccuracy each type of errors and (3) discussing and summarizing the findings. The researcher revealed that the level of grammatical accuracy in the brochure was only 58.10% based on 251 out of 432 sentences. Therefore the grammatical inaccuracy found in this brochure was 41.90%. The writer found out 284 types of errors on 181 error sentences. The writer of the brochure made the highest level of error in surface strategy taxonomy which was 225 errors or 79.23% of the total occurrences. This was divided into omission with 100 errors (35.22%) misinformation with 86 errors (30.28%) addition with 29 errors (10.21%) and misordering with 10 errors (3.52%). The second type of errors which the writer made was error in the linguistic category taxonomy. The writer made 53 errors or 18.66% of the total occurrences. This was divided into semantics with 32 errors (11.27%) discourse/style with 15 errors (5.28%) and spelling with 6 errors (2.11%). The last type was miscellaneous mistakes distributing 6 mistakes or 2.11% of the total occurrences. This was divided into improper punctuation and double typing which occurred 4 mistakes (1.41%) and 2 mistakes (0.70%) respectively. These errors may be caused by the incomplete application of rules first language interference translation and lack of attention. The researcher hopes that the result of this study is able to contribute some inputs in producing a qualified promotion media. Furthermore this study can give theoretical and practical contributions in the area of teaching and learning process. For future researchers it is suggested that they are able to conduct the same issue in other fields of study e.g. culinary science etc.
