The population of the study includes five public senior high schools their headmastersf i ve English teachers a nd the second year students. Four kinds of instruments are used in the research namely questionnaire observation interview and documentation. The data that can be collected from the respondents are taken thena nalyzedb y usinga methodc alleds implep ercentage. The findings ofthe study show that all ofthe English teachersa re qualified teacherss ince they graduatedf rom S-l program ofEnglish Departrnent.I n addition most of the teachers use 1994 English curriculum (Supplement of 1999 English GBPP) and the syllabus based on the new curriculum. Dealing with teaching preparation most of the teachers do not make teaching preparationw ith different reasons.N ext all ofthe teachersu set extbook as the source of the teaching materials. One of them uses not only textbook but also newspaper. Moreover one teacher even takes the teaching materials from more than one book. The meaningfulnessa pproachi s not applied by more than half of the teachers in the leaming-teachingp rocessa nd they do not use the communicativea ctivities. Thp leaming-teaching facilities are available in most of the schools. In terms of evaluation formative test is usually conducted at the end of each unit of lesson while summative test is usually administered by the schools at the end of each four month term. Based on the findings above it is suggestedt hat the headmasterss hould requiret he English teacherst o make all of the teachingp reparation.T hey should also involve the teachers in English training or seminar. For the English teachers they should make all of the teaching preparation teach language skills and components communicativelyB. esidest hat some teacherss hould not dependo n the textbook only should use conrmunicative activities and various media. The suggestion also goest o the other researchersI.t is necessaryf or them to observem ore details about the teaching ofEnglish at senior high schools in different regions. ul
