In the process of learning and teaching English the students are expected to master the four skills of English that are listening speaking reading and writing. In the process of mastering the four skills Senior High School students may get difficulty in writing texts because they should create composition authentically which has to reflect the other three skills. There are several type of texts that must be mastered by the students including procedure text. In teaching writing a procedure text an appropriate method is needed to be applied. There is an appropriate method which can be used in teaching writing a procedure text named demonstration method. The objective of this study is to know whether demonstration method is effective or not in teaching writing a procedure text. Several studies found that the demonstration is effective in teaching writing procedure text. Hence this study will give conribution to the previous studies if it find that demonstration method is effective in teaching writing a procedure text. This study employed Pre-experimental reseach one group pre-test post test design. It consists of three stages (1) pre-test (2) treatment (3) post test. The subjects of this study were the students of XI MIA 1 SMA Negeri 2 Genteng. There were 34 students who participated in this study. In scoring the tests the reseracher used writing rubric which focused on the assessment of the content grammar vocabulary and mechanics used. The research findings of this study showed that the post test score of the students was significantly higher than the pre-test score of the students. All of the students (34 students) got better scores in the post test. It means that demonstration method is effective in teaching writing procedure text. This method engages the students participation in the learning and teaching process because it is an enjoyable and fun method. Finally it is suggested that the English teachers apply this method in teaching writing a procedure text. The researcher also suggests that the future researchers employ the findings of this study as their reference. ABSTRAK Tyas Cindy C.C. 2017. Dalam proses pembelajaran bahasa Inggris peserta didik diharapkan dapat menguasai empat aspek kemampuan dalam berbahasa Inggris yaitu mendengar berbicara membaca dan menulis. Dalam proses penguasaan empat aspek kemampuan tersebut peserta didik di tingkat Sekolah Menengah Atas pada umumnya mendapatkan kesulitan pada aspek menulis dikarenakan mereka harus membuat teks komposisi autentik yang harus merefleksikan tiga aspek kemampuan lainnya. Adapun beberapa tipe teks yang harus dikuasai oleh peserta didik salah satunya adalah teks prosedur. Dalam pembelajaran teks prosedur dibutuhkan pengaplikasian metode yang sesuai. Ada sebuah metdode yang sesuai yang dapat diaplikasikan pada proses pembelajaran penulisan prosedur teks metode tersebut dinamakan metode demonstrasi. Tujuan dilakukannya penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui bahwa metode demonstrasi efektif atau tidak jika digunakan dalam pembelajaran menulis teks prosedur. Beberapa penelitian sebelumnya menemukan bahwa metode demonstrasi efektif untuk digunakan pada pembelajaran menulis prosedur teks. Adapun penelitian ini akan memberi kontribusi pada penelitian sebelumnya jika ditemukan bahwa metode demonstrasi efektif untuk digunakan pada pembelajaran menulis teks prosedur. Penelitian ini menggunakan penelitian Pre-eksperimental one pre-test post test desain. Penelitian ini terdiri dari tiga langkah (1) pre-test (2) perlakuan (3) post test. Subjek dalam penelitian ini adalah peserta didik XI MIA 1 di SMA Negeri 2 Genteng. Peserta didik yang turut berpartisi pasi dalam penelitian ini berjumlah 34 orang. Dalam penilaian kedua tes peneliti menggunakan writing rubrik yang difokuskan pada penilaian content grammar vocabulary dan mekanika penulisan yang digunakan. Hasil dari penelitian ini ditemukan bahwa nilai post test siswa menngkat secara signifikan dibandingkan dengan nilai pre-test. Seluruh siswa yang berjumlah 34 mendapatkan nilai yang lebih tinggi pada post test. Ini berarti bahwa metode demonstrasi efektif digunakan dalam pengajaran menulis teks prosedur. Metode ini menarik partisipasi siswa dalam proses pebelajaran karna metode ini merupakan metode pembelajaran yang menyenangkan dan seru. Terakhir disarankan pada guru-guru bahasa Inggris untuk mengaplikasikan metode ini dalam pembelajaran menulis teks prosedur. Peneliti juga menyarankan bagi para calon peneliti selanjutnya untuk menggunakan temuan dari penelitian ini sebagai referensi.
