Abstract

Vocabularyis oneo f the languagee lementsth at canb e developedm aximally in thee lementaryle vel.D ealingw ith teachingv ocabularye speciallyfo r young learnersv isual aids play importantr oles sincet hey capturet he young students attentiona ndh elp their comprehensionA. t the moment t herea qen ot any appropriate instructionala idsto build up the vocabularyo f elementarys chools tudentsa t SD LAB UniversitasN egeri Malang. consideringt he challengesfa cedb y the elementary schoolt eachera boutt he appropriatew ayst o teachE nglish vocabulary t his studyi s directeda t developinga productw hich is practical and attractive.I t is expectedth at the productc ould be usedt o build up the English vocabularyo f elementarys chool studentso f SD LAB UniversitasN egeri Malang especiallya t the fifth grade.I n this study the writer developed products in the forms ofa flannelboard and picture and word cut-outs. This study is a developmentasl tudyi n which the developmento f the product is based on the frndings ofthe survey conducted previously. The subjects ofthe study weret he fifth grades tudentso f SD LAB UniversitasN egeri Malang.T he instruments usedi n this studyw ere interview guides a seto f questionnairesa nd an observation form. The data collected from observation and intewiew were analyzed and presentedin the form ofdescription. The dataf rom students q uestionnairew ere analyzedo n a frequencyc ountb asisa nd presentedin the form ofdescription. The result of this studys howst hat the developmenot f the productm eetst he requiremenot f being practical and attractive.B esidesi t can be usedf or longert ime theaid is practicalb ecauseit is easyt o prepare t o use a ndto keep.T he important deficienciesf ound is that someo f the picture cut-outsa re too small for classroom activities and the color ofthe carpet used for covering the front part ofthe board is too bright. The revisions that have been carried out include enlarging some ofthe picture cut-outs and putting the word cut-outs into larger type.
